New and Emerging occupations

The Kenya Labour Market Information System (KLMIS) will regularly provide information on new and emerging occupations in Kenya.
By definition, emerging occupations describes occupations or job categories that are created by changes in technology, society, markets or regulations. The new /emerging occupations come with new skill sets, knowledge, abilities and work activities that are not captured by current occupational classifications.

Individuals seeking new careers or new pathways within existing careers will benefit from this effort. Educational institutions developing training programs to meet workforce demands, and companies writing job descriptions for workers in a changing environment will also benefit. This information will also be important in the updating of the Kenya National Occupational Classification Standards (KNOCS).

Emerging economic sectors that are likely to create new occupations include:

  • Mining sector
  • Information Communication technology
  • Standard Gauge Railway line
